Recipe Notes :

Such a fabulous way to wake up; combine breakfast with your morning coffee to create a beautiful protein packed mocha smoothie! Perfect for some of these lovely hot summers days we’re having. 

Extra tips:

  • Vanilla protein would work well in this if you don’t have chocolate, or unflavored would still be yummy too as the cacao powder and coffee add lots of flavor anyway.  
  • If its a super hot day or you want more of a slushie vibe, similar to what you’d get if you got a frappuccino in coffee shop like Starbucks or Costa, add some ice in as you blend with the frozen bananas. 
  • Now this may seem super strange but I actually sometimes add kale or spinach to this mix if I want to get more greens in that day, for example if i know I’m not going to have many fresh veggies the rest of the day. If you blend it super well you wont be able to taste them and the smoothie wont turn a horrible brown-green colour I promise!
  • For a more whole-foods chocolate syrup mix a little maple syrup with some cacao powder.

Protein Mocha Morning smoothie 

Time: 5 minutes 

Serves: 1 smoothie

  • 2 Frozen Bananas 
  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder 
  • 1 tbsp cacao powder
  • 1/2 cup almond milk 
  • 1 shot of espresso 
  • Optional toppings: chocolate syrup, Cacao nibs, coconut flakes


  1. Blend all the ingredients together until smooth. 
  2. Pour into a glass, top with all the toppings and enjoy!
